Discovering your style icons can be so much fun and a personal journey especially when reflecting on memories from our youth. As for me, my love for fashion has only grown and delving into the world of style icons, It is when I first started my college course in Level 3 BTECH National Award in Art and Design (Fashion & Clothing Textiles) where I started learning about the history of fashion to studying textile science and technology. One of the most memorable aspects of my college experience was the opportunity to collaborate with fellow students on creative projects and design competitions bringing ideas to life when creating garments for catwalks. It was very challenging full of a unique blend of creativity, technical skill and attention to detail
The journey typically begins with inspiration, so when I first discovered the Thames & Hudson Yves Saint Laurent Catwalk fashion book , I just love the collection of the runway which shows captured in the pages of the catwalk book with so many unique designs, I was able to dive deeper into the genius of this iconic designer. It also made me feel so motivated in creating my own different type of styles for my own wardrobe.
Here are some 5 steps to help you identify your style icons:
1.Reflect on Your Preferences:
Take some time to think about the types of clothing, accessories, and overall aesthetics that you’re drawn to. Consider the colors, patterns, cuts, and styles that resonate with you the most.
2. Browse Fashion Magazines and Websites:
Flip through fashion magazines or browse fashion websites and blogs to see the latest trends and styles. Note down any looks that catch your eye and align with your taste. For me fashion books and Pinterest are my favourite when I love to discover new styles. You can also create a mood board: Gather images of outfits, accessories, and overall looks that inspire you.
3. Look to Pop Culture:
Explore movies, TV shows, music videos, and social media platforms for inspiration. Pay attention to the outfits worn by celebrities, actors, musicians, and influencers whose style you admire. Identify how they put together outfits, incorporating trends and accessorise. I know for me there are so many of my favourite celebrities that also inspires me in my fashion such a JLO, Christina Milian, especially when im scrolling down my Instagram and I see the the latest new trend outfit and I think ‘Wow’ While it’s important to draw inspiration from others, remember to stay true to your own unique sense of style.
4. Experiment:
Don’t be afraid to try out different styles and looks. Experimenting with various clothing combinations and trends can help you refine your personal style and discover what truly resonates with you. Its always good to try on different garments and mix and match pieces to see what works best for you when visiting clothing stores. Keep and open mind and be willing to explore new trends and aesthetics.
5. Trust Your Instincts:
Ultimately, your style icons should be individuals whose fashion choices make you feel confident, comfortable, and authentic. Trust your instincts and choose icons who inspire you to express yourself through your clothing and accessories.
Whether I’m seeking inspiration for a new design or simply indulging in my love for fashion history, the Thames & Hudson Yves Saint Laurent Catwalk fashion book remains a constant inspiration and fascination for me. I enjoy reading through the pages to this book, not only I was inspired by the stunning imagery and iconic designs but also gained valuable insights into Saint Laurent’s creative process and the evolution of his design aesthetic over the years.
