The creation of making all my albums is an adventure that begins with a single note I’d love to take you on a behind-the-scenes journey into the creative process when I first started releasing my music. Here’s a glimpse into my creative process when creating RnB music.
For this album ‘Its Your Body’ It began with simple melodies scribbled in notebooks and hummed voice notes on my phone. Days and nights were spent penning down thoughts, often rewriting them numerous time I was blessed to work with Tony Sway my producer, and sound engineer. His inputs, and perspectives added layers of depth to each track, making the songs richer and more dynamic. Each recording session was a lesson in patience, resilience, and continuous learning. Before the final release, I took a step back. Listening to the album and making sure it sounds right.
Creating an album is a deeply creative and personal process, whether you’re a musician, songwriter, or producer. Each album is a unique journey, and the creative process can vary from one artist to another and it begins with a single idea, a spark of inspiration. For me, it could be a fleeting emotion, a personal experience, or a melody that’s been playing in my mind. Once I have that initial seed, I can’t help but let it grow. I jot down lyrics, hum melodies, and experiment with chord progressions until I find the heart of the song.
1. Finding the Spark:
Every song starts with a spark. It could be a fleeting emotion, a distant memory, or even a conversation overheard on the street. This spark often leads to a melody or a line that becomes the cornerstone of the entire track.
Recording a song in the studio is both exhilarating and challenging. With every take, I pour my heart into the song, aiming for that perfect performance that captures the essence of the music. It’s a process of revisiting emotions and reliving moments, layering each note with genuine feeling.
2. Setting the Mood with Instrumentation:
RnB thrives on its emotive undertones. Once I have the initial spark, I think about the instrumentation. Do I want soft piano riffs that float gently, or do I want the deep resonance of a bass guitar? The instruments become characters in the story, helping to enhance the narrative.
3. Lyric Writing:
RnB is storytelling. The lyrics need to be genuine, heartfelt, and relatable. I often find myself revisiting personal experiences or imagining scenarios that evoke strong emotions. It’s essential for the words to flow naturally, almost like a conversation with the listener.
4. Melody Crafting:
Once the lyrics are on paper, I hum, sing, and experiment with different melodies. This process can be instantaneous or might take days, but it’s crucial to ensure that the melody complements the emotion of the lyrics. RnB is storytelling which I love. The lyrics need to be genuine, heartfelt, and relatable. I often find myself revisiting personal experiences or imagining scenarios that evoke strong emotions. It’s essential for the words to flow naturally, almost like a conversation with the listener.
5. Collaboration:
Music thrives on collaboration. Sometimes, a fresh perspective or a different voice can elevate the song. I often work with other musicians, lyricists, or producers to enrich the track. This synergy can lead to unexpected and delightful outcomes.
6. Recording & Refinement:
The recording studio is where the magic truly comes to life. Here, I can experiment with vocal tones, back-up harmonies, and the arrangement. It’s also where the song undergoes multiple refinements, ensuring each note, each word, and each pause is purposeful. My producer who is my Husband Tony Sway, with his keen ear and artistic sensibilities, brings the music to life for me. He sculpt the soundscape, making sure every instrument and vocal shines in harmony. It’s here that the rough takes are transformed into polished tracks, and the song becomes more than just a recording.
7. Feedback & Iteration:
Once the initial recording is done, I share it with close friends, fellow musicians, or mentors. Their feedback is invaluable, helping me refine and perfect the track. After all, RnB is as much about the listener’s experience as it is about the artist’s expression.
8. Release & Reflection:
Releasing a track is both exhilarating and nerve-wracking. Once out in the world, the song takes on a life of its own. However, I always take the time to reflect on the journey, cherishing the learning and memories associated with the track. The moment the album is ready for release is a thrilling and nervous one. Sharing my music with the world makes me so excited and its deeply rewarding. It’s the connection with listeners and the power of music to touch hearts that drives me forward.
Conclusion: Creating RnB music is a deeply personal and enriching journey, one that requires vulnerability, patience, and passion. Each song is a chapter of a larger story, a testament to the human experience, and the myriad emotions we navigate. Recording an album in the studio is an incredible journey, a testament to creativity, perseverance, and the beauty of music. It’s not just a collection of songs; it’s a reflection of emotions, experiences, and dreams. The studio is where inspiration and hard work come together to create something
As I continue this musical journey, I’m excited to share my stories and melodies with the world, one album at a time. Through my creative process, I hope to touch the hearts of listeners and share a piece of my soul.
