The time has come! As Halloween approaches, we as Parents are looking for ways to get there their little ones excited about the spooky season. I love creating a Boo Basket which is a fun way of being creative, and festive way to introduce toddlers to Halloween. It’s a basket filled with Halloween-themed treats, toys, and activities, offering a sweet surprise for your child to enjoy.
Here are my top tips to create the perfect Boo Basket for your toddler:
Step 1: Choose the Right Basket
Start by selecting a basket for toddlers, you want something that’s easy to carry but also festive, like:
- A small plastic pumpkin bucket or a nice storage basket which I use.
- A Halloween-themed tote bag.
Step 2: Pick Toddler-Friendly Treats
You can go for a a healthier option for snacks to add to the basket
- Mini pouches of fruit snacks or yogurt melts
- Pumpkin-shaped crackers or cheese
- Organic fruit pouches with seasonal flavors like pumpkin or apple cinnamon
- Mini boxes of raisins or other dried fruits
If you do include candy, make sure it’s toddler-safe (avoid hard sweets, gummies, or anything that could pose a choking hazard).
Step 3: Add Spooky but Cute Toys
Toddlers love toys, and incorporating Halloween-themed items into your Boo Basket will keep them entertained long after the holiday. Some great, safe options include:
- Soft Halloween plush toys: Think pumpkins, black cats, or ghosts
- Glow-in-the-dark stickers or Halloween-themed decals
- Rubber ducks in Halloween costumes
- Bouncy balls with spooky designs
- Halloween-themed board books: Short, fun, and filled with colorful pictures
These toys will make the basket feel magical without being too spooky for your little one.
Step 4: Include Fun and Safe Activities
Crafts and hands-on activities are a great way to keep your toddler engaged. Consider adding the following:
- Halloween coloring books with chunky crayons
- Foam pumpkin decorating kits (safe, no sharp objects required)
- Simple Halloween puzzles
- Play-Doh in orange, black, and purple colors
These activities encourage creativity and are perfect for keeping toddlers entertained while you prep for Halloween festivities.
Step 5: Decorate the Basket
Once you’ve gathered all the goodies, it’s time to make the basket look extra special! You can add something personalise which I love, this could be your Toddler’s name on it.
Tips for a Toddler-Friendly Boo Basket
- Keep it age-appropriate: Make sure everything in the basket is safe for toddlers, avoiding any small parts that could be a choking hazard.
- Stick to a theme: You can create a cohesive look by sticking to a Halloween color palette (orange, black, purple, and green).
- Balance the goodies: Mix treats, toys, and activities to keep the basket exciting without overloading it with sweets.
- Consider sensory-friendly items: Toddlers love to explore textures, so think about adding squishy toys, soft plushies, or crinkly paper for a sensory-friendly experience.
